NINOs of 1986 were the brave boys who left home at the tender ages of 11-14 to master both independent living and academic knowledge on PRESEC land. In the dorms we were called juniors or ninos : in the classrooms, we were called scholars. Thus became the case that one could be a scholar but not a nino.

To qualify as a Nino required passing three extreme tests.

  1. Achieve top grades in national common entrance examination to gain admission to PRESEC.
  2. Excellence in seniors’ special exams sat with brand new exercise books and pens which are not returned.
  3. Surviving the ultimate night initiation rites at the assembly hall where only the best cream come out alive.

The photos you see here are of gallant survivors who survived all trying challenges as juniors and trudged on to happy victory in June 1991.
